Tendinitis

Tendons are what attach muscles to bone. The first picture illustrates an achilles tendon, the tendon found at the back of your heel. The second picture illustrates a patellar tendon, the tendon found underneath your kneecap.

Tendinitis means that the tendon is inflamed. If the tendon has too much weight put through it, is used too much, or is stretched too much, tendinitis can develop. Tendinitis starts as a condition that can be controlled in a short amount of time, but it can develop into a condition that lasts a very long time. An inflamed tendon can cause scaring in the tendon, which can decrease the amount of movement that can occur. An inflamed tendon also causes a lot of pain. The pain and the scaring both lead to a loss of certain movements and functions that can occur at that joint.
