Sciatica - continued

Many different things can cause sciatica. The nerve can be pinched at the base of your back where it exits your spine. The nerve may be torn or stretched anywhere along its pathway. Tight muscles, arthritis, or abnormal structures somewhere in your buttock or hip can irritate the nerve.

In order to get rid of your sciatica, the cause needs to be identified. A physical therapist will do a full assessment and try to figure out the cause of your sciatica. The physical therapist will then treat the cause and help you get rid of your pain. They will also teach you what to do to get rid of the sciatic pain yourself if it starts to return.
