| Everyone has a slightly rounded back. Kyphosis means that
your upper back is more rounded than normal. This posture also often includes
rounded shoulders and a forward head position as seen in this picture.
Kyphosis can be caused by osteoporosis, by bone disease or injuries,
or by sitting and standing in this position for many years. Exercise and holding a good posture can help decrease your chance of developing kyphosis. Kyphosis may be permanent if your spine has changed to this shape. However, many things can be done to make sure your posture does not get worse. |

Kyphosis can cause pain because many muscles and joints are pinched or stretched. If your kyphosis is severe, it may be difficult to breathe. This posture also makes it difficult for you to reach over your head and may therefore make some everyday activities impossible.
