Pain is very common following spinal cord injury. It may be caused by the injury itself (broken bones, torn muscles). This pain usually gets better in a few months.
Some people may experience pain below the level of the lesion, where they otherwise
do not feel anything. It can be a burning sensation, numbness, or tingling feeling.
Scarring in the spinal cord may cause this pain but the reason for it is not
actually known. This pain usually goes away over time.
