MS is an autoimmune disease. This means that immune cells in the body that fight against infections, start attacking normal cells in the body. In MS, the immune cells fight a part of the brain and spinal cord called the white matter. This is involved in sending and receiving information. MS is also a progressive disease, which means that the disease and its symptoms get worse with time. As of yet, there is no cure.
Usually this first symptoms of MS are tingling and numbness in the face, hand
and feet, as well as vision problems. As the disease gets worse, symptoms such
as shaky movements, walking problems, difficulty with movements and sensation,
bowel and bladder control problems, and feelings of exhaustion develop.
