| This is a lung disease caused by having many lung infections like pneumonia. The repeated infections cause damage to parts of the lungs. In bronchiectasis, the damage causes swelling and scarring of the lungs and this means that there is less area where oxygen and carbon dioxide can get in and out of the lungs. | ![]() |
When your lungs are scarred, there are less working parts and therefore you feel short of breath. Phlegm sitting in your lungs makes it even harder to breathe. As your bronchiectasis progresses, you may need to be given oxygen to help you breathe.
